My understand of the conversion process is: 1: use mencoder to convert the vob file to avi 2. use mkvmerge to convert avi to mkv container
I'm using the syntax below to accomplish that objective. mencoder.exe -ofps 29.970 -aspect 16:9 -vf pp=ci,scale=720:480:0:0:0.00:0.50,eq2,hue,harddup -sws 2 "Input.vob" -passlogfile "C:\Temp\TKaraokeToolsPasslog" -ovc x264 -x264encopts bitrate=4000:qcomp=0.6:threads=auto:direct_pred=auto:bframes=3:b_adapt:no8x8dct:pass=1:turbo=2 -oac pcm -o NUL mencoder.exe -ofps 29.970 -aspect 16:9 -vf pp=ci,scale=720:480:0:0:0.00:0.50,eq2,hue,harddup -sws 2 "Input.vob" -passlogfile "C:\Temp\TKaraokeToolsPasslog" -ovc x264 -x264encopts bitrate=4000:qcomp=0.6:threads=auto:direct_pred=auto:bframes=3:b_adapt:no8x8dct:frameref=6:me=umh:subq=6:pass=2 -oac copy -o "Output.avi"
mkvmerge -o output.mkv output.avi
But this process only capture ONE audio channel. I don't know how to get around this. Could someone give me a pointer? Oh, and the reason I don't want to use the GUI is becuase it doésn't give me the option to kêep my orriginal screen size of 720x480.

You can post a request to change TKT to take any output resolution. However, if you want to keep 720x480 for NTSC DVD videos, something is wrong. Make sure you know what you are doing here. In 99.99% of the cases, you don't want to keep 720x480. The optimal resolution for 4:3 NTSC video is 640x480. A quick way to reason this is 720/480 is not equal to 4/3.

All the individual vob chapter i ripped from recent TN dvds are 16:9 aspect ratio with a resolution of 720x480. I want to keep the original aspect ratio and resolution, 16:9 and 720x480 respectively, and just reduce the bitrate from 8000 to 4000 to reduce the file size.

I want to keep the original aspect ratio and resolution, 16:9 and 720x480 respectively, and just reduce the bitrate from 8000 to 4000 to reduce the file size. If you play these DVD with "keep aspect ratio" option, you will see that there are 2 black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. This is because 720/480 is not equal to 16/9. Why do you want to keep the 2 black bars then? You can certainly do more reading about this to fully understand it (google it). Once you understood it, you'll see why the output resolution options in TKT (namely 640x480 and 640x368) are the optimal resolution for NTSC DVDs. In another word, you don't need to keep 720x480. If you keep the resolution 720x480, you will get 2 black bars if you play with option "keep aspect ratio". If you play with option "sketch to fit screen", the software player will try to scale the video for you. TKT uses a very good scaler to scale the video. In most cases, the scaler used by the player is not as good as the scaler uses by TKT. Also, the file size is smaller when you scaled with TKT vesus you don't scale but then let the player scale on the fly when you play it.
