My setup that I bought about 2 months ago (I had Karaoke mixer before this), speakers are 10" which is a little disappointment on low end (I prefer very loud music), but with subwoofer it sounds pretty good for 24'x17' room. But anyway, I am going to replace these speakers with 15" and would recommend that you buy 12" or larger. Good Luck!!!!

I have
Alesis IMultimix 8 USB I bought here

Wireless mic system. Very nice, better than I expected, mine have round capsules, though.

Behringer compressor to compress vocal to protect speakers (tweeters), a must if you have strong voice or friends that yelling instead of singing :-). New one around $100.

Vocopro Key Changer

I prefer powered PA speakers, if you have $$$ get JBL EON or Mackie, I have listened to them live, they are awesome.

All stuff above require XLR and TRS cables. Key changer also has optional RCA connectors,

Standard USB cable to connect PC to Mixer also works (no drivers needed), great if you don't have good sound card.

Very nice setup Matthew, Have you used USB to PC audio hookup? for playing or for recording?
Applause
Is it equal or better than USB sound card?

Thanks in advance for your comments.
My Peavey Mixer is pretty old and beatup. I'm thinking about buying a new mixer with USB or Firewire function

good karaoke system,
built yourself a HTPC around $500-$700, any mixer (mackie cfx recommend), condenser microphone (shure beta 87c very good one around $250 will last for decade), two active speaker (it call power speaker built in amplifier, mackie or jbl EON recommend). and also around $200 for any digital echo.

With this package will last year after years except the HTPC probably will be out of date year or two.

save $$$ then built good system, you will never regret on the quality and also will last much longer then you thought.
