Let make long story short. The same vob file but way different video quality when play under KMPlayer vs TKaraoke. I believe TKaraoke is using same open source VLC media player and so the KMplayer. How come the video picture on TKaraoke is way too blur compare to KMplayer? I have try all configuration option on TKaraoke but not much to play around.
Dont get me wrong, when watching same vob file on computer monitor which hard to tell different between them since 1050 of pixels on small 22" monitor.
However, when watching same vob file on LCD TV flat screen 1080P with 52". Either stretch or keep radio, TKaraoke is way too blur compare KMplayer or even Window Media player.
I am using HTPC with HDMI output with 1gb memory on video card and 4gb ddr3 on motherboard.
If some one know the trick to make video quality better on TKaraoke, please help.

Why don't you download VLC and play the same file to compare. Make sure you double-click on the video window inside TKaraoke to enter fullscreen mode (just not maximize). Also, set Progressive Scan to Linear under the Options menu.

Yup, VLC player produce same video quality picture which TKaroake using. I guess compare apple with orange doesn't make sense. I hope some day VLC release better video quality.

I don't see any quality issue (or difference between TKaraoke and KMPlayer) on both Shrap 52" 1080p or Sony 52" 1080p over HDMI connection. What is the bitrate/framerate of your vob file?

the vob file from Tinh production. "lien khuc dan ca". overall bit rate 7975Kbps, video: bit rate 6762, 720x480, frame rate: 29.970, display ratio: 4:3, audio: bit rate 448Kbps ac-3.
my tv is Philip 1080p 52" at 120mhz, when play this vob or other vob file. there is huge different video quality between two player when stand 5ft, 10ft and 15ft away from tv.

The 52" Sony listed above is also 120Hz. Can you upload this sample file to our FTP? I wanna try to see if I can spot the difference. This Vob file your ripped from an original Tinh DVD Karaoke disc or you downloaded the disc?

I think KMPlayer use Gabest MPEG-2 decoder. Not sure what VLC use. So, if they are not the same. There might be a difference in quality. There's also another software that can play .vob file that I have been using. You can download it here. http://download.cnet.com/Walaoke/3000-13632_4-75001519.html

Mpeg-2 codec has been around for so long. Pretty much any codec can produce almost identical quality. It's like pretty much any car now can run 65 Miles per Hour. You don't need an expensive BMW to do this. I would think the codec only matters on new formats where there is less info about them.
What I think happen here is that he has some video setting presets on his Philip TV that caused the illusion of "better video quality" when the input video signal match certain condition. Philip introduced a lot of features like "back lighting effect" to try to stand out from the rest. I always not use any preset and define a custom setting where I calibrate the TV w/ the help of tools like DVE.

That what I also thought too, I play around setting on my TV and also try different type resolution on video card. too bad my tv don't have D-sub (analog) to try out. Like I mention above, when play same vob file on Window Media or KMplayer and watching with 10-15ft away from TV, the video picture is sharp and pretty clear, but when watching on TKaraoke video is so blur or event on VLC player. I am not sure what I am missing here. Do I need any special external video decoder to get better quality. I will try install FFDSHOW decoder see any help.
I will also bring my HTPC to my brother and friends house to test on different TV to see any different. Another thought, maybe phillip tv require driver install on pc? will play with that when I get home this even.
Please don't get me wrong, TKaraoke is the best app out there. I just try to get the best out of it that all. Nowaday, video and audio quality is very important for watching and listening.
Thank you all for your feedback.

TV manufaturers have ways to manipulate your viewing perceptions. It may help if you look into viewing perspectives regarding distance between viewers and the TV (Overall). There are many articles regarding this on the NET - just google "TV Viewing Perspectives" or any phrases you feel comfortable. BTW - I have a Sony and Toshiba same size and almost same specs (both - LCD). Side by side, I prefer the Toshiba ($150.00 cheaper and I am not working for Toshiba either) over the Sony! I am older than the Earth :)

Thank you all for your feedback. That is very interesting. I don't have problem like you described above but It's good to know. Wonder if VLC Player is not 100% optimized for vob files? Because It is designed to play mkv files My computers and PS3 are fighting cancersHere's how http://folding.stanford.edu/

Thank you for all your help, great lesson learn for me. What video card did you ended up using, and what connection are you using (HDMI, composite, s-video)? Can you (or anyone) recommend a good sound card to use also? I'm new at this so I need all the advice I can get. Cam on nhieu

I am using Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 series video card with DVI output (using HDMI adapter). Any HD video card with HDMI around $90 out there will work fine but video quality on TK not good compare with nvidia quardo. Quadro FX kinna expensive and also not decide for low profile bracket either.

Is your video quality as good as the one showed in this video? Remember the video was captured by a phone so the live quality was actually alot better but the video does give an idea of how things should look. http://www.tkaraoke.com/forum/tkaraoke_postst1477_Laptop-for-TKaraoke--Buying-guide.aspx

I don't know how to tell good is too good, but if I stand 5 feet away from my 52" lcd. I can see clear image and hair detail, NO fuzzy image or square fuzzy box around the edge. For some reason this video remove fuzzy image and make crystal line.
that why I mention in previous posted, I thought my video is death, miracle this expensive card come back to life. 3D and graphic designer should know what this card can do. but I don't know why it work so well with Tkaraoke video image.
